but it seems like it would be the tiny gold mark and French gold from that period is an 18k standard

Yes, tortoise shell and 12k gold filled (not solid gold) but of fine quality. Measurements are noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, these are c. 1960s, so vintage rather than antique. The shell canted rectangles have high polished shine and a superb beveled edge and gold mounting pin. Beautiful cognac to chocolate mottled color. My favorites!
