Our black lacquer altar cabinet tapers upwards to meet the curved apron at either end of the top surface

though more rudimentary versions were also made using a single piece of flexible wood such as willow

A single removable shelf is fitted inside each one

The paintings are set against pale, sepia tones and framed in red, which in turn contrasts perfectly with the black lacquer surround and side panels in a classic colour palette from Gansu.
