At the time the image was taken

The 870-micron submillimetre-wavelength data were taken with the LABOCA camera on the 12-m Atacama Pathfinder Experiment (APEX) telescope

which are neighbouring galaxies to the Milky Way

The most distant slopes in the scene are higher levels of Mount Sharp
