Louis Boillot, Volnay Angles Vintage:2018 It was my last port

Louis Boillot, Volnay Angles Vintage:2018 It was my last port(from 35+ year old vines). Smoky reduction and wood serve as a pungent introduction to the rich and relatively full bodied flavors that are succulent but less vibrant on the lingering if mildly chewy if not actually tough finish. This may better come together but its a bit awkward today.

Description

It was my last port of call during my week in Tokaji and I visited with winemaker Istvan Bai

Here the mildly toasty nose is marred by post malolactic fermentation aromas though there is good freshness to the attractively textured middle weight flavors that aren’t especially dense though I like the verve and salinity on the delicious and lingering finale

Unique aromas of strawberry

There is so much underlying material that this could very well surprise to the upside if given at least 6 to 8 years of cellar time

(from a 1 ha holding that is comprised of two large parcels that sit just above those of Domaine de Vogüé)
